I'm a BIG fan of keyboard shortcuts and a HUGE proponent of shaving seconds off tasks. You may not think that saving a few seconds is a big deal, but try reformatting a database of 2500 records – or updating multiple print/animated newsletter accounts with new personal messages. Then you can really see how seconds make a difference.
I
came across a blog post the other day, The Power of
ALT and TAB, and began reading it eagerly. Then, of course, I became
distracted by this illustration
of an old typewriter. I've never actually seen a typewriter like this, so
I'm not sure if it's a real depiction or what?
Anyway, I do use the ALT+TAB keyboard shortcut – every single day – and many others. So I thought I would share with you a list of my favorite PC keyboard shortcuts:
- CTRL+C: Copy
- CTRL+X: Cut
- CTRL+V: Paste
- CTRL+Z: Undo
- CTRL+SHIFT+Z: Redo
- CTRL+S: Save
- CTRL+SHIFT+S: Save As (Unfortunately, this does not work in Office 2007 but it does work well in Adobe products.)
- CTRL+A: Select All
- CTRL+B: Bold
- CTRL+U: Underline
- CTRL+I: Italic
- CTRL+F: Find
- CTRL+P: Printer dialogue
- CTRL+O: Open new file
- ALT+0149: • bullet
- ALT+0151: — em dash
- ALT+0167: § section sign
- ALT+0169: © copyright
- ALT+0174: ® registration
- ALT+0176: ° degree
- ALT+F4: Close current file
