You've done the workshop. You've had lunch with the CPA or CFP. What next? FOLLOW UP! That's by far the THE most important thing to do from here. We tend to minimize that part of the task and yet it is the most crucial to solidify the relationship.
In fact, I'll go as far to say that if you don't, it's costing you money. You've spent time (which equals money) and shelled out the hard cold cash necessary for the workshop. They are all part of your marketing plan. Not following through has huge potential of leaving your profits right there on the table.
Anyone that you have contact with is always potential for new business. And particularly in your marketing strategy of hosting a workshop or seminar, or lunch with a new referral source. So take that next step and reach out. And do it while the fire is hot. Preferably you need to block out time the next day after any workshop and make the follow up happen.
Let me share a story... I was working with an attorney and we were so busy after our workshop we didn't carve out intentional time to do the follow up. When we eventually got to it (one week later) one of the people contacted let us know that they had been waiting to hear from us. And went on further to say that since they didn't hear from us, they assumed we didn't want their business and retained another firm. Ouch! All that time and money we invested in them, to provide them with the information they needed to make a decision, had generated revenue for the competition. E-gad!
Come up with an approach on the follow up you want to implement in your office make it happen. Start with calling, add them to your mailing list, add them to your e-newsletter list (if appropriate and they have opt in), connect with them through your social media and keep them apprised of your knowledge through your blog. Bottom line is always follow up! Don't hesitate or it will cost you money. Your intention is always to get additional business, follow through with that and don't wait for them to make that move.
